Platform as a Service
Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a subset of cloud computing that delivers hardware and software tools to users from a third party via the internet. The Software as a Service
The Software as a Service (SaaS) model enables users to access software applications and functionality from a third-party provider over the internet without having to install the software locally. Customers get network-based access to a single copy of the software specifically prepared for distribution via the web, with updates being taken care of by the software supplier.
The customer's service level agreement will dictate whether their data will be stored locally, in the cloud or locally as well as in the cloud. A customer may also write their software tools and integrate them with the SaaS, to increase functionality, via an API (Application Programming Interface).
SaaS has cost benefits in that it removes the need for organizations to acquire, install and maintain hardware and software assets. Further, SaaS is a pay-as-you-go model which means that customers have the flexibility to quickly meet increased or decreased demand, benefit from predictable, fixed monthly costs and cancel agreements at any time.
